See I’m a Celebrity last night? It was good to see minigolf featuring on one of the most watched TV shows in Britain. Ola and Jordan took a while to get the hang of it, but they ended up holing out in style. How many takes it took for the ball to rattle into the cup is ITV’s business. If you missed it, here’s a clip.
Ant and Dec are great golf lovers. They quite often play at charity fundraisers and once planned to have their own TV golf event. Touted for ITV then Sky in 2005, it was to feature Hollywood A-listers like Sylvester Stallone, Catherine Zeta Jones, Hugh Grant, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia. The idea was to have a Ryder Cup-style tournament over 3 days with USA and Europe teams. Donald Trump (whoever he is) was to play on the USA team and it was to be captained by Colin Montgomerie. Viewers were to join the teams and have a chance to win a Caribbean holiday for nearest the hole, and a cool £1 million for a hole-in-one if they beat the celebrity.
It didn’t fit into ITV’s schedule because of the large amount of semi-live coverage required over three days of a bank holiday weekend. The show was going to be one of the biggest TV events of the year, according to news reports from 2005.
