Canterbury Cathedral Brings in New Visitors with a Putterfingers Mini Golf Course

When you think of Canterbury Cathedral, centuries of history, awe-inspiring architecture, and spiritual significance probably come to mind. But this February half-term, visitors also found something a little more unexpected – a pop up mini golf course, right in the heart of one of the UK’s most iconic heritage sites. Canterbury Cathedral added one of our portable mini golf courses to their visitor offer, and the response has been nothing short of fantastic.

Mini Golf in a Cathedral? Yes – and It works!

The Cathedral first set up the course during the February half-term and plans to bring it back again this summer and autumn. Designed to be quick to install and easy to manage, the course was an instant hit with families and casual visitors alike.

“We went to the mini golf event with my two young girls and from booking with Alexia to the day itself was great! We would def go again, and will look out for more of these events!” – Tripadvisor review

While it’s especially popular with families, the course has also seen participation from young adults and even players in their 70s. The relaxed, welcoming environment has allowed a wide range of people to engage with the space in a new way.

Boosting Footfall and Broadening Audiences

The Cathedral saw its visitor numbers double compared to the previous February half-term, with a noticeable increase in local footfall. Offering something fresh and accessible like mini golf has helped bring in new audiences who may not have visited otherwise.

The team is now exploring opportunities to make the most of the course outside the Cathedral walls and looking at ways it could be hired out to local community groups or events.

Why did Canterbury Cathedral Chose Putterfingers?

According to the Cathedral team, it came down to three key things: the quality of the product, affordability, and excellent customer service.

“Delivery took just three days, and Eventstuff (Putterfingers) provided a free demonstration for our maintenance team. We were able to use it the following month.” – Canterbury Cathedral

A Model for Other Cultural Spaces

When asked if they’d recommend a mini golf course to other heritage or cultural venues, the answer was: yes. It’s a flexible, fun, and effective way to connect with the public.
