The best type of charity fundraising event is one where people actively participate and have fun along the way. Add a competitive edge, and your event will really draw people in to see if they can outdo everyone else.
A crazy golf day is a perfect way to achieve that mix of fun, participation and competitiveness and raise surprising amounts of money for your charity.
One popular approach is to stage a crazy golfathon – an epic crazy golf playing session. Participants are sponsored per hole and the money raised can be substantial. Hundreds of thousands of pounds are raised annually by golfathons. The fundraising event can be anything from five rounds of crazy golf (45 holes) to a dawn-to-dusk or even 24-hour session, where totals can approach 250 holes! If a crazy golfer is sponsored just 20p per hole at a shorter five-round event and has 10 sponsors, they’ll raise £90 (if they’ve got the stamina!). If you can get 50 players on board it could raise £4,500 for your charity.
Stage a longer crazy golf fundraising event and the amount raised can be much more. Obviously this needs balancing with finding enough people willing to devote their day to playing crazy golf for charity! But if planned and announced well in advance of the day it can work well.
Children can participate too, of course. It’s exciting for them to get sponsored and see how many holes they can do. You might find you have a small army of little fundraisers eager to help you raise money.
One great idea is to get local businesses to sponsor a hole. Putterfingers can assist with the branding of hole flags and course edge bumpers. This can cover the cost of hiring the golfathon package.
