Eaton Park in Norwich to have crazy golf course by Spring

In less than six months’ time Eaton Park should be the site of a new crazy golf course in Norwich.

Work has now started on the course and the man behind it, Rob Trown, has pledged that it will be up and running by Easter.

His plans for the course include a seating area in the middle with the hedging around the course made up of hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, hornbeam and maple trees, which should be good news for the neighbourhood birds.

At the moment any budding crazy golfers have to travel to places such as Great Yarmouth or Wroxham Barns for a round of golf.  We were fortunate to meet Rob last month and hear all about his exciting plans for the park.

Rob is from Caston near Watton, and hopes that demand will make the project a success. He has spent most of his career in IT, but has recently renovated a house and now plans to be the hands-on figure behind the new crazy golf course.

Crazy Golf Course in 2014 for Eaton Park, Norwich

He said: “This is a well-used park and there is no crazy golf in central Norwich so it should be popular.

“This should be something new for the people of Norwich and for visitors to the city. I’m very enthusiastic about my DIY skills and will be on site most of the time. And then when we open I will be on site running it for most of the time.”

The course will be open in daylight hours on about 180 days of the year, and Mr Trown also plans to create a nine-hole putting green on a third unused bowling green in the park.

The new course has been welcomed by the Friends of Eaton Park whose chairman Helen Mitchell said:

“We are really pleased that it is happening. It will be done with great care by someone who is really enthusiastic about the park.

“We are hoping it will be successful and many members of the Friends are looking forward to playing on it.”

It will be great news to get another permanent crazy golf course in East Anglia.
