As much as half of England is now facing a drought that will continue into the autumn at least. Many golf and cricket clubs will face a ban on using water to maintain the playing surfaces, specifically for those that do not stage international or national fixtures.
Exemptions are in place for grass and surfaces used for national and international sports which means the Olympic and Paralympic games will be unaffected.
