How easy is it get a hole-in-one in golf?

Some people seem to get a hole-in-one with little effort while others take hours of practise to perfect their chances of them hitting the ball from the teeing off area into the hole on the green.

On the other hand some golfers go their whole golfing careers without one, so just how hard is it to make a hole-in-one? The odds vary, it turns out, depending on who you ask, but we’re willing to bet that the odds aren’t as long as you might expect.

The Golf Digest study provided many great nuggets of information, even breaking the odds down by quality of play:

  • Tour player making an ace: 3,000 to 1
  • Low-handicapper making an ace: 5,000 to 1
  • Average player making an ace: 12,000 to 1

Our modular hole-in-one challenges can be a task for most ability of golfer.  Our largest was set out as a 6m Challenge Putt at office of a large insurance company, in Central London this Summer.  The 6m putting green is the equivalent to 20 ft in ‘old money’ and required several strokes in play to get to the hole.

We set up and hosted a 3m hole-in-one putting activity on Friday evening as part of the Bounce Magazine 1st birthday party.  Bounce Magazine were raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and along with a raffle, auction and hole-in-one activity the team managed to raise an impressive £800 – well done to Rachel and Dan and the team at the Elveden Inn for a successful evening.

The Most Miniature Golf Holes-in-One in 24 hours record was set last year by Allan Cox in his campaign to raise funds for the Oncology Department at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia. Over $9,000 dollars were raised.

Allan achieved 1,5,16 holes-in-one in 24 hours of mini golf – what a champion he is!

So maybe it was fairly easy for Allan Cox to score a hole-in-one in mini golf but what is your best hole-in-one record on a course?

Over 9 holes, mine is just the two so best I keep practising!
