Last Sunday saw Putterfingers first exhibition of mini golf / crazy golf as a wedding entertainment option at a local Wedding Fair. After several online enquiries and some bookings this Summer for hiring a crazy golf at weddings, we decided to embark into an unknown territory and try out our first exhibition, alongside jewellery designers, cake makers, disco providers, bridal wear, wedding venue hosts and a whole lot more.
Crazy golf would not be the first think you think of when planning or booking a wedding but we soon gained interest as we were placed in the entrance foyer of the Athenaeum by the organiser and immediately after registration the brides-to-be were directed to our area set up with some mini golf holes. And they couldn’t resist a try at putting the Loop the Loop obstacle and the soon to be grooms were keen to show off their golfing prowess.
Our crazy golf courses were an instant hit with the children who came along in the bridal parties and to those who have lots of children on their invite list. ‘What better way to keep the kids out of mischief!’ were the words from one lady marrying for a second time and looking for something different to entertain the kids.
Alternatively a great distraction during the photographs or just a quintessentially British thing to do in the grounds of the beautiful wedding venues available in East Anglia. Admittedly, many ‘big kids’ came for a putt and indicated that it would be great fun after the ceremony and into the evening reception!
So the day progressed chatting with many brides and feeling thankful that I did not have to go to all the expense and headache of the planning, as I opted for a wedding abroad for just the two of us on the idyllic island of Mauritius several years ago.
As someone who always loved the idea of cake decorating, my feeble attempts at trying to ice and handcraft flowers often fell flat. I have found over the years that I really do not have ‘pastry hands’ as my old chef lecturer told me and I soon realised I was better off serving rather than making!
Some 200 brides later I now have a bucketful of interested bridal parties to quote for and hopefully a busy Summer of wedding bookings in 2012!
